PI DAY 2022: 100DIGITS Project Blurb
Hi Meagan,
Thank you so much for passing along the details about my project for International Pi Day, March 14th, 2022, to your friends at Business Insider, TechCrunch, and any other fitting media organizations.
As you suggested, here’s a blurb:
My name is Izzy Lapidus and I’m a sophomore at Barnard College passionate about making the STEM community a more inclusive place for women and non-binary folks. At Barnard, I’m studying Computing, Design, and Pedagogy (a special major I created myself) and I aspire to re-imagine computer science education.
Every year on Pi Day, I post a video of myself reciting the first 100 digits of Pi, something I’ve had memorized since I was 12 years old. This year, I’m taking things up a notch with the launch of my new project: 100DIGITS, a video and online database featuring 100 women and non-binary Icons in STEM.
The video showcases each Icon reciting one of the first 100 digits of Pi, ending in a call-to-action to the online database (DIGITS, or Database of Icons: Groundbreaking, Innovating, and Thriving in STEM) where folks can learn more about each of the Icons and their accomplishments.
The remarkable 100+ Icons come from a wide range of STEM fields. Participants include C-suite executives, entrepreneurs, scientific researchers, venture capitalists, software engineers, professors, content creators, and everything in between:
As a young girl interested in science, I never had any women or non-binary role models to look up to in STEM. My hope with this project is that it inspires young people to explore STEM by showcasing a diverse set of individuals forging their own unique paths in the STEM community.
On Pi Day, the video will be shared on multiple social media platforms, including my Instagram and TikTok accounts where I reach 4000+ followers.
