• the way the CS program is designed right now does not reflect barnard's education styles

  • pre-demonationally women
• 1004 can stay (so can the rest of CU's CS) but there must be a barnard alternative
• you said you wanted barnard CS to have a "planting seeds" mentality
  • 1004 is a weed out mentality
• barnard students will never take the upper level barnard CS classes if they are not introduced to CS in a way that feels welcoming
• students will be drawn to go immediately to major classes rather than take an intro class that doesn't go to the major
• i dont understand why there cant be a welcoming class that still fulfils major requriements

• if there hadn't been that connection with columbia, barnard would've always have a department/program
• biggest concern: barnard students and crossed the street to be CS students
• columbia CS views barnard students as their own
• trying to enhance the experience of barnard CS students

      • own major, own requirements
      • but staff wise we're not big enough to do this

    • other option:

      • we create an staff an intro sequence

      • then students go into the core

      • we would have to really agree with columbia

        • barnard students must have a fair playing field

      • taught by barnard faculty

      • columbia might view this as a criticism

      • if we don't do it better, then we have made it worse

      • columbia is a choice-place to work

      • not that many people interested in teaching at the intro level

      • upper level classes do count towards the major

      • we might create a new track: liberal arts approach to computing

    • introductory class that goes towards the CS major

      • is there a way that we can make these big columbia CS classes match the needs and wants of barnard students?
      • with students who want to take a lead on things
      • purely social events do play an important role
      • CSC workshops

      • barnard hired people in a barnard space
      • collaborating with columbia

    • setting up a student advisory board

      • they get to be in meetings with CS faculty and their opinions get to be a part of future faculty decisions
      • they get to voice their opinions in the next phases and steps and directions that barnard CS takes

    • group of students as a means of involvement

    • working on making our instagram + social platforms more of a thing?

    • working on how we can market barnard CS and encourage highschoolers to apply to study CS at barnard

      • i am starting to do this on my own on tiktok and have found that people LOVE barnard....so how can we turn that into more people loving barnard + also wanting to study CS at barnard

    • potential harm...no harm, maybe they would be embarrassed , risk of potential harm is minimal
