Have you ever wondered it’s standard that people work 40 hours a week?
I’m no HR professional, but I’ve definitely questioned where this number of hours came from and if it’s really the most productive
It was originally started with the idea that in 24 hours, there are 8 hours to work, 8 hours for recreation time, and 8 hours to sleep
But the reality is that people wind up spending at least 7 hours a week outside of their designed 8 work hours, so people wind up working over 40 hours a week
There’s been studies that show that working over 40 hours a week is really unhealthy for you; humans simply weren’t built to work that much
There’s also studies that show that people are just as productive, if not more productive, when they work less than 40 hours a week
What are your thoughts?
