Hi everyone! My name is Izzy Lapidus and I am honored to be running as your Representative for Information and Technology. If we haven't yet met, I'm the girl you've probably seen on campus wearing extremely colorful outfits. It's kind of my thing.
I want to tell you all a little bit about me and my background. I'm a sophomore at Barnard majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Education. My life mission is to re-imagine the perception of STEM. I do a lot of work surrounding inclusivity in tech. I'm a proud alum, Instructor Assistant, Community Ambassador, and soon-to-be Intern at Kode With Klossy where I spend much of my time cultivating a community where young women and nonbinary students feel empowered to code.
My vision as your Representative is two-fold. First and foremost, I want to ensure that you all view me as THE GIRL to go to for anything tech-related on campus. You're having issues logging into your Barnard portal? Hit me up. You have a question about BCIT or Student Computing Services, DM me on Instagram. There's an outlet in Milstein that still hasn't been fixed and it's been over a week? Let me know and I will get it fixed ASAP.
Beyond the physical tech stuff, I am committed to helping Barnard establish itself as THE PLACE TO GO as a WOMAN or NON-BINARY STUDENT IN STEM. I want everyone excited all things STEM at Barnard, whether they think of themselves as "STEM people" or not. I'm already in conversation with Professor Wright, the Director of Barnard's Computer Science program; Saima, the Associate Director of the Computational Science Center, and the team behind Barnard's exciting Year of Science. Last Fall, I even had a conversation with President Beilock where I straight up asked her what her vision is for the future of Computer Science at Barnard. I'm passionate about having these conversations and will continue to have them as your Representative.
I am a proud Barnard student who is genuinely so excited about everything tech related on campus. I promise that as your elected Representative, I will make technology inclusive and accessible to every Bold Beautiful Barnard student on campus. Thank you so much!
