Why do I want to grow a following?
I don’t exactly know. I’ve been interested in creating social media content since I basically first started going on social media. I had a “Tumblr girl” like account in 6th grade on my Instagram. I’ve always valued aesthetics, creating a digital presence, sharing parts of my life on the internet, connecting with people, being an inspiration and a resource.
Then we have this whole #womeninstem #theminstem thing going on. I’ve been sharing my interests and “work” in STEM for almost 3 years now, since I was in my senior year of high school. It’s an important part of my identity, something I’ve found community in.
But the content I was once creating started to feel old. I didn’t like just talking about “yay go women in stem!!!!” It felt stupid, lame, and chuegy. And while I still believe in the power of women in STEM role models, I’ve really shifted my interests into STEM education. But more than just STEM education, the way we design classrooms in general.
My (STEM) interests have shifted a lot in the past few years. How I’ve been “active” in the STEM community has shifted a lot in the past few years. While I’m a part of the STEM community, my interests in STEM feel different than those that make up the more “mainstream” women in STEM world. I’m much more about the education. I love education. I love kids. That’s the area of trajectory of STEM I want to be in.
